About ClearTags and our editorial method

ClearTags is a browser-based metadata inspector and cleaner. “ClearTags Editorial” is the shared byline for documentation and research based on tested product behavior and cited primary sources. It does not represent an invented individual expert.
What we have direct experience with
The product parses media containers in the browser, separates ordinary EXIF/XMP/IPTC fields from C2PA Content Credentials and creates cleaned derivative copies. Our format claims are constrained by the code paths we can test: selective container cleanup for supported JPG, PNG and WebP sections, and local FFmpeg remuxing for compatible audio and video streams.
We distinguish an observed field, our interpretation and an unknown. A valid C2PA signature establishes technical claim integrity, not the truth of a depicted event. No accessible manifest establishes only that the inspector found no supported manifest.
How articles are researched
- Prefer current primary sources: specifications, official platform policies, product documentation, legislation and source repositories.
- Link claims to their sources and show publication or review dates where time can change the answer.
- Separate documented platform behavior from inference, creator anecdotes and unverified reach claims.
- Check statements about removable metadata against the actual cleaner implementation and a production build.
What we do not claim
- ClearTags is not an AI detector and does not infer human authorship from missing metadata.
- Metadata cleanup does not guarantee removal of a platform label, different reach, moderation avoidance or legal compliance.
- The product does not forge, rewrite or issue a replacement signed C2PA history.
- ClearTags currently does not detect or remove SynthID or another watermark embedded in media content itself.
Corrections and review
Platform rules, technical standards and laws change. Articles carry a modified date and a primary-source list so a reader can verify the current basis. When a source changes materially, the article should be reviewed rather than silently preserving an outdated conclusion.
ClearTags does not present its editorial team as a law firm, certification authority or independent fact-checking organization. Legal articles provide general information and state that limitation explicitly.
