Terms of use
Prototype version · updated August 12, 2026
ClearTags is an informational metadata inspection and cleanup tool. By using it, you agree to use the service lawfully and follow the rules of platforms where you publish content.
Purpose
The service displays information it was able to read from a selected file. It does not establish whether an image is truthful and does not confirm that content was made by a person, even when no C2PA manifest is present.
User responsibility
- You must have the right to inspect the selected file.
- Do not use the service to make false claims about content provenance.
- Do not use the service to break the law or a third-party platform’s rules.
- Keep the original when signed provenance or edit history may be important later.
Metadata removal
Cleanup can remove signed provenance, authorship, dates, location and other context. A file without metadata is not proof that it was created without AI or that it is authentic. Some containers may retain technical fields required for playback.
Accuracy of results
Metadata formats and standards change, and some files may be damaged or use unsupported extensions. Reports are therefore provided as-is and may be incomplete. Use multiple independent sources for high-stakes decisions.
Not legal or authenticity advice
ClearTags results and these terms are not legal advice, an authenticity examination or a guarantee that any platform will accept a file.
