Data being processed

The application temporarily reads the selected file, including C2PA Content Credentials, EXIF, XMP, IPTC and technical media-container data. This data is used to show inspection results and create a clean derived copy on the current page.

Where processing happens

Parsing and cleanup are performed by client-side JavaScript and WebAssembly modules. The media file stays on your device. Audio and video cleanup loads a self-hosted FFmpeg WebAssembly module only when needed. When the page is closed or refreshed, the inspection results and selected file are removed from browser memory.

Clean copies

When you request cleanup, ClearTags creates a new derived file in browser memory. The original is not modified. The clean copy leaves the page only when you choose to download it.

Storage and analytics

ClearTags uses the hosted Umami Analytics service to count page views, understand traffic sources, measure page performance and see whether anonymous visitors complete key product steps such as importing, cleaning and downloading a file. Umami receives the page path without its query string or hash, referrer, browser and device information, language, screen size and approximate location derived from the network request. ClearTags does not use advertising identifiers or set analytics cookies.

Analytics never receives a selected file, file name, file hash, metadata value, prompt, location stored inside a file or raw error message. Product events contain only broad values such as image, audio or video; batch-size range; import method; automatic or custom cleanup mode; cleanup strategy; verification outcome and download action. The selected metadata sections are not sent. Events are not linked to a ClearTags account because ClearTags has no user accounts.

Downloaded clean copies

When you download a clean copy or ZIP, your browser saves it directly to your device. ClearTags does not receive or keep it. The copy still contains your media and may retain unsupported data or fields you chose to keep, so review it before publishing or sharing.
